What Is a Weight Bench?

A weight bench is a padded, flat or adjustable platform you lie, sit, or lean on while lifting weights. It’s one of the most fundamental pieces of gym equipment — without one, you’re limited to standing and floor exercises. With one, you unlock bench press, incline press, dumbbell flyes, seated shoulder press, skull crushers, step-ups, and dozens more.

Pad quality: Dense, firm padding beats soft and squishy. The pad should be wide enough for your shoulder blades (25-30cm) and long enough to support your full back.

Weight capacity: A good bench handles 250kg+. Cheap benches rate at 150kg, which sounds fine until you add your bodyweight to the bar weight.
